The garden has been so dry that I put the sprinkler on and the dumpling blackbird emerged out of the bottom of the hedge motel as it began to drip, but this time he was able to scramble about following the parent bird.
The sparrows have been making a deal of noise in any piece of greenery they can find, the woodpeckers came, separately, to the bird table peanut feeder and the starlings and great tits have been enthusiastically clearing out the last of the coconut feeder mixture…the coal tit simply disappears into the three-quarter nut completely.
The bigger birds have largely avoided us today because Mother was sitting in the garden, in the shade of the cherry tree, dozing a little in the sunshine, so that the chaffinches felt safe to make a brief dive down to the grass to snatch a morsel or two before they lifted off again.
